Inspiration- 400 Years Without A Comb 

When watching the documentary 400 Years without a
Slave, I began to think about the maintenance of afro
hair. The documentary spoke about how women and
men would carve their own combs for themselves or as
an offering to a potential partner. I decided it would be
interesting to create some art piece combs myself.

to erase the slaves’ culture and alter the relationship between
the African and his or her hair.”
